![]() There is a chance that St George Shuttle has a spot open (they also run from Las Vegas to St George). Nearest "cheap" airport is Las Vegas, about 2.5 to 3 hrs away. Nearest airport is 45 miles and an hour away from Springdale. It is beyond unlikely that you'll find a taxi or Uber to get to Springdale from an airport. UT9 goes through the park and the east side after the big tunnel is worth seeing and there's also the Kolob Terrace and Kolob Canyons area where you'd need a car. About 80 to 90% of Zion visitors only see Springdale and the main canyon. There's also a free shuttle that gets you around the main street of Springdale. You can rent bikes/ebikes and pedal - it's a pretty easy bike of 8.5miles from visitor center to end of road at Riverside Walk. It is true that the main canyon road is closed to cars (unless you have a reservation at Zion Lodge) and you need to take the park shuttle to get to those hikes (Emerald Pools, Kayenta, Angels Landing, West Rim Trail, Riverside Walk, Narrows). That higher elevation at those places can drop the temperature 20 degrees or more compared to Springdale. If you do have a car and August heat and crowds start wearing you down, you could day trip to Cedar Breaks, Bryce, or even North Rim Grand Canyon. You'll need a car to get to any of these but I'm not clear on how you had planned on getting to Springdale without one (St George Shuttle running?). Timber Creek Overlook and Middle Fork of Taylor in the Kolob Canyons area of Zion are also nice. Northgate Peaks is a nice hike if you want to get away from the chaos in Springdale/Zion Canyon. Very useful to rent the shoes and hiking stick in town but you can use your own if you have neoprene socks and decent water shoes and hiking poles.Ĭanyon Overlook (parking is major challenge) and Observation Pt from East Mesa or Stave Spring (call and book a $7/person shuttle from Zion Ponderosa to avoid driving on potentially rough roads and also to help ease some of the parking challenges back there). Narrows is a great hike for the heat of August as you're in the water. If you're really fit, look into hiring a shuttle up to Lava Point and hiking West Rim Top Down. Hike up past Scout Lookout (where the spur to Angels starts) even if you don't get a permit. Angels needs a permit - best to go early due to August heat but you may not get an early morning permit (or one at all - they sell out almost as soon as available). We also enforce the rules of self-promotion:Īngels Landing and the Narrows are the two iconic hikes in Zion that everyone will ask about. ![]() ![]() We also remove links to outside sites selling National Park-related merchandise and linking to any will get you instantly banned. We do remove drone videos of national parks since this is expressly against their rules. This is a place to share anything about any of these places. Photos from your trips, photos you've come across and like, blog posts, questions, advice or news articles all are welcome. If it has to do with any part of the US national park system (national parks, national monuments, national seashores, national recreation areas, national historic sites, etc) or International national parks, feel free to post it here. ![]()
